Founder Debbie Deer
Debbie Deer is an award-winning creative technologist, educator, performer, and speaker from Kingston, Jamaica, based in Toronto, Canada. Her work centers the future of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour expression in art and technology. She is the Founder and CEO of Debbie Deer Productions and Orion Digital Inc., and has collaborated with organizations including Luminato Festival, Toronto District School Board, York University, Georgian College, Sherbourne Health Centre, Power Plant Gallery, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Debbie is currently the Immersive Lab Coordinator at Centennial College’s Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where she designs AI-, VR-, and AR-driven curricula, and recently developed an AI learning program for a primary school in Jamaica.
With a background spanning psychology, digital media, and performance, Debbie’s work has been featured at Toronto International Film Festival’s Deep Focus, Toronto and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, and major global conferences. A 2025 Raindance Immersive Film Festival nominee for A Christmas Carol VR, she is driven by a mission to pay it forward through mentorship, education, and inclusive innovation, most notably as the founder of the IBPOC XR Incubator with Performance and XR and through her ongoing work advancing equitable, future-focused creative technologies.
